My Project

Literacy is such a powerful tool! My goal is to have a classroom library in which all my students can see themselves in the pages of the books they read. Reading from multicultural books will foster an awareness, understanding, and appreciation of those who seem at first glance different from the reader. Multicultural literature includes not only books about people from different cultures, but also talks about people of different religions or who have intellectual and physical challenges. I will be integrating this literature into my curriculum by using these books as mentored texts to spark discussion on important topics. These resources will not only enrich students' views of the world, but also inspire them to be future leaders who make others feel welcomed and valued.
