My Students
A typical day in my classroom starts off with a smile! School is a place where my students feel welcome and loved every day.
My fifth graders come from many different walks of life.
My classroom is composed of a large percentage of students receiving free/reduced price lunch, as well as a variety of backgrounds.
My thoughtful and inquisitive fifth graders come to school excited and eager to learn, despite the challenges of learning through a pandemic. Our classroom is a tight community of learners and enjoy spending it together as "family."
My Project
In order for students to fall in love with reading and become better readers, they need to read more often. My students need a class set of novels titled "Out of my Mind" to promote class community, enrich vocabulary, and enhance engagement.
Using this as a mentor text, my students will practice reading skills in an authentic way.
Students will learn important reading skills in context such as theme, characterization, point of view, author's purpose, and much more. I will also use this text to teach mentor sentences, which will be beneficial in grammar and writing.
