This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My co-teacher and I teach a group of highly motivated students who come from very diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Some live in poverty, foster homes, or with other extended family members, however, this does not stop their love for learning! They love to ask questions and explore the world around them... but most of all, they love to read! My co-teacher and I give our students free time at the end of the school day and most of our students choose to read. With that being said, with schools closed now due to the coronavirus into what foreseeably could be May or June, our students lack the ability to access books.
My Project
During this stressful and scary time, our students receiving a set of their very own books can supply more than just a smile! Most of our students lack access to books at home and therefore cannot read as often as they would like. The books that were chosen are at their individual reading level and will be mailed home immediately upon arrival! The books will certainly bring many smiles to our students faces and will ensure that our students can keep up with their reading and continue to learn during this critical time.
