This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in an elementary school in Wilmington, Delaware. Currently, I am working as a special education teacher mainly working in the 5th grade with our identified special education students. As a special education teacher, I push in to the classroom to support inclusion for core content classes such as English Language Arts and Mathematics. I also pull small groups of students to work in our pull out space for extra support to our students. My students have deficits in reading and I hope to help them grow and close the gap.
My Project
As I continue working with my struggling readers, I am reminded of how important it is to promote reading comprehension skills across different areas. These materials will help to promote those critical skills needed to read and comprehend both fiction and nonfiction texts as well as to help compare/contrast texts. I want my students to feel encouraged to try and put in an effort into their reading journey and these materials will help me present these skills over a variety of methods. The tricky word cards wil help expose my students to tricky words and help encourage them with their phonics building. My students are hard working and I know that they can grasp these skills with a little help from these supplemental materials. Please help us promote these skills so we can raise up our future leaders to be the best readers they can be!
