My Students
I am fortunate enough to work with an amazing group of culturally diverse students who are eager to learn. My students build a community within our class where they work and support each other in becoming scholars. We are part of an IB (International Baccalaureate) school program where our students focus on becoming global-minded citizens.
The enthusiasm of my students fuels me daily!
Their passion for learning makes me want to be the best teacher that I can be. I support students with special needs, IEPs, and autism as well as students who have been identified as gifted in multiple areas. At all levels, students work towards personal growth and improvement. Students set both educational and personal goals so that they can become the best versions of themselves.
My Project
My students have a passion for reading this year that inspires their peers around them! I have students sending me pictures of books that they received as holiday gifts and I've witnessed the excitement as students share rich discussions about new novels that they have read. Students have eagerly shared their favorite titles and authors that they would like to see added to our classroom library.
I would like to continue to encourge this love for reading by adding culturally relevant text to our classroom library.
This year I added a monthly book report to my curriculum. Each month students read a book from a different genre and complete a project from a menu of twelve different choices. I have received great feedback from students expressing that they have moved out of their comfort zone and started enjoying books from a variety of genres due to this new assignment.
Adding new books to our classroom can ignite excitement in our class to read books for their book report that students are truly interested in. The additon of new novels in our classroom will increase the love for reading and learning in our school where our motto is "Where Learners Become Leaders."
