Help me give my students access to high-interest books to add to our library! We would like to add some new nonfiction titles for our first Book Club unit, as well as some graphic novels and fiction titles.
My classroom is home to 58 amazing students who are in the 6th grade - their first year of middle school. While they spend their time in my classroom being writers, readers, and historians, they are so much more than that. They are excited to be in school, and to be building the skills and strategies that they will use to grow both in their learning and in their lives as a whole.
They are full of questions, but my favorite one to hear them ask is: "are we going to be reading today?" What more could a teacher ever want to hear but passion and excitement for reading!
I'm proud and grateful to work with such enthusiastic learners, and want to provide them with as many resources as I can to help them grow.
My Project
Putting the right book in the hands of a student has the potential to engage, motivate, and connect them to the outside world. This project will support my amazing 6th grade students to have access to high-interest, just-right books. Their goal in 6th grade is to be reading one grade level book each week or so, which means they will need access to a lot of books this year. Being able to quickly select that book in our classroom helps keep them engaged and reading as much as possible. Along with many fiction, graphic novels, and adventure series titles, I am also looking to add non-fiction titles to our classroom.
Non-fiction books allow children to further expand their horizons beyond the familiar.
We will soon be spending a few months focusing on Narrative Non-fiction reading, and need to add new titles to have access to in the classroom. We will be studying the structure of the specific genre, thinking critically about what we read, and developing and organizing our ideas and thinking with other students in Book Clubs.
Please help support my young readers have access to high-interest books so we can build lifelong readers.
