Help me give my students storytelling lapboards, magnetic sound sorting boards, write and wipe boards, alpha bots, storytelling puppets, and a hear myself sound phone center.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our preschool classroom recently opened and so for most of my students this is their first time being in school! This just happens to be the most awesome bunch of Pre-K students I have ever encountered: they are brave, kind, inquisitive, talkative, energetic, great listeners and just an all around ball of fun. My students represent a range of different cultures, backgrounds and races. It is so exciting to be a part of a learning environment where parents are an awesome support system!
My Project
My Pre-K students are always interested in “reading” books, asking me to write their name, spell family member’s names and they are becoming more aware of print around them daily. But, our classroom, being a new classroom, is lacking many vital Pre-k literacy materials like magnetic letters and letter stamps for name and word building and other phonological awareness and phonics games. There is also a shortage on books and a variety of reading materials such as felt board stories, books on CDs and puppets. With these materials, my students will be able to experience literature in a multitude of ways. My students are self motivated and love materials they can engage and explore independently and with guidance! They are so hungry for knowledge!
