This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are students who need extra support with reading. These students are in the Title I Reading program. They are excited about learning and try their best. I enjoy seeing the light bulb come on when they unlock a new sound or word while using this program.
Many of these students come into this program stating that they cannot read and leave reading at much higher levels.
The students are in grades 3-8 and work hard. One particular student thrives on the structure and routine this program provides. They know what to expect daily from the program. If a part is missed that day, they ask why we didn't do it.
My Project
These materials will help my students to become better readers. In addition to providing the fundamental reading skills they need, the books will allow the students to apply what they have learned. My students enjoy working with this program. It is a structured intervention for students who need a jump start in reading.
Since the student is motivated to learn with this program, the growth is evident.
The Recipe for Reading workbooks provide additional practice corresponding to the lessons in the teacher manual. The Alphabet Series are fun books to read that reinforce the lesson concepts and phonics skills taught.
