I teach full-day Kindergarten in an Oklahoma school that values learning through the multiple intelligences. The students in my classroom come from a variety of social, academic, and economic backgrounds. In spite of our differences, we are building a classroom community that embraces each member as we grow and develop.
It is important to me that children leave with a community that values their own growth and learning, while understanding that we are all better when we learn firsthand from others and their experiences as they impact our own.
My Project
Children are naturally curious. They are full of wonder and excitement! What better way to answer their questions or help them explore the world around them than through books?
These books will offer experiences to help children ignite their curiosity and wonder while developing their understanding of others.
These books will be used during our whole group read aloud to develop our comprehension as early readers. Children need to be exposed to a variety of books so that they can meet characters in stories that face adversity, never give up, take chances and experience things for the first time. Not only will children be exposed to the circumstances of how the characters in the books handled particular situations, but through speaking and listening, they will be able to compare and contrast their own experiences as well as those of their peers to the characters in the books.
