Teaching Kindergarten is an amazing journey! My students come in with such different personalities and abilities. Some students are shy and quiet and others are outspoken and determined. Some students are beginning readers and others are amazing artists. Whatever their personality or ability, I am entrusted to loving and growing them beginning from where they are.
Kindergarten is an adventure!
My goal is to always create a classroom culture of forgiveness, risk taking, sharing, and empathy. We celebrate and encourage each other! And as much as they learn from me, I always learn from them.
My Project
During independent reading time students will be able to look through pictures of Little Critter books and begin reading familiar words. Others will remember the pattern in Pete the Cat books and read independently. Most, if not all, students LOVE to be read aloud to. They will be engaged listening to stories such as Corduroy and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." — Frederick Douglass.
It is our job as educators to develop a love of learning and reading in our students. I believe this grant will help to instill that love for reading!
