This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school has a dynamic learning environment where we empower all students to become independent thinkers.
My first graders are creative, curious, and talented individuals.
They love to share and are hungry for knowledge! I work with amazing students that come from a variety of backgrounds. They love coming to school everyday and learning, and I want to ensure they have all the necessary materials to be successful.
There is a wide range of reading abilities in my classroom, and I desperately need more books at various levels to accommodate their needs.
My Project
My first graders select books from my class library to keep at their desks so they can read throughout the day. Unfortunately, there is not enough variety of both fiction and non-fiction books at different reading levels in our current selection. We need quality books at all levels so all students can feel successful. Adding more books from the DonorsChoose grant will enable my students to find books that meet their needs and interests.
A good book can spark curiosity and wonder in students and instill a lifelong love of reading.
It is important that I provide books in the classroom library that inspire students to make connections, ask questions, and make predictions. My students LOVE to read and I am excited to get this project started to help my students have more books in their little hands!
I believe that this project will help bridge the gap between my students' academic levels and also serve to help students focus and have an increased love for learning each day!
Having these high-interest texts will not only provide my students with the experiences they need to gain confidence in their reading abilities, but also give them another look at what powerful writing looks like. These books will inspire inquiry, creativity, and a passion for learning!
