My students need high interest reading materials that will boost their comprehension skills and turn them from struggling readers into confident readers. They need comprehension materials that will actively engage them as they become successful readers.
My students have mild to severe learning disabilities, and learn through a variety of different modalities.
Some are tactile, some are visual, and others are kinesthic learners. Most needs a hands-on approach to improve their learning. These high interest comprehension materials will address their different needs. My students are eager to learn new things and need constant practice and reinforcement. They come from different ethnic backgrounds. Some live in the neighborhood, while others travel from various areas. Some have had to find new places to live because their homes were destroyed because of Hurricane Sandy. My students face academic challenges daily. They attend a high poverty school which does not receive any extra funding for resources and supplies needed.
My Project
The book clips are perfect for my students to locate evidence in a text such as themes, key details, new words and main ideas. The comprehension kits, folders, cards and journals will help my students develop their comprehension skills using a multi sensory approach. It will encourage them to find text evidence, determine the main idea, identify key ideas and details. They will be able to engage in high interest activities as they read fiction and non fiction text. The storage unit and bins will store and organize their comprehension materials. They will have easy access and be able to find their materials.
My students will benefit greatly from these high interest comprehension materials.
They will have a multi sensory approach that will address their needs. If a student feels successful they will want to learn. Readers of today are leaders of tomorrow! With your help you are increasing my students chances of achieving their goals.
