Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader!
My students need access to books on these 3 Nooks with a screen protectors in order to make them the better readers I know they can be.
It's tough always being a step behind with our technology. Students get excited with technology. Students today are digital learners and were born into this world surrounded by technology. They are more apt to become more involved and fluent in reading with the support of technology.
I am the Title 1 coordinator in a targeted assistance school in Maryland, which means almost the entire school qualifies for free or reduced price meals.
However, I can only assist a targeted number of students with the greatest need until we qualify to be a full Title 1 school. Targeted assistance schools essentially have the funds for the resource teacher but not the resources! We are also limited in that we can NOT use the resources that the classroom teacher uses, it's supplement, not supplant. Access to thousands of books in one device would be invaluable!
My students have never had access to an E-reader. I will be able to have students use the Nooks in a small reading group and independently. I can use the Nooks with my English language learners as well. Doing activities to increase their vocabulary with the built in dictionary app. I hope to use the Nooks to support student learning and grow readers through technology.
I am eager to get Nooks in my classroom.
My students are at risk learners and our technology is so antiquated that I just know that having access to this new technology and the thousands of titles available at so many levels, will really get my kids excited about reading and give them the edge they need to succeed!
