Help me give my students the world by exposing them to a variety of books such as Brian Jacques Redwall, R. J. Palacio's Wonder, and old classic detective stories like the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.
The students at our school are amazing! They come into the classroom excited to learn and become involved in whatever topic that is in the plan. We have wonderful support from our parents. We have a very diverse population of students, culturally, economically, and with different learning abilities. It has become my goal to try and stay ahead of them!
“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” Margaret Fuller, an American Journalist said this.
I am a very lucky teacher: I have a classroom full of future leaders. I want to instill in these students the wonders of the world. I want to show them how the imagination of others can paint a picture in their minds. I want them to realize that these authors, these people, were once students like them. I want my students to know that the world is open to them. Reading is a place for them to start.
My students are working hard to create a solid base of education. They appreciate what they have now, and they are learning to use their knowledge to take control of their education. I love to see their excitement grow as they are introduced to new information.
My Project
I want to give my students the chance to read a large variety of books: everything from the little animals of Redwall protecting their homes to books about kindness, such as Kindness Starts With You and Learning to Be Kind.
“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” — Frederick Douglass.
Giving my students the opportunity to read is a door that will never close for them. Creating a library in my classroom that is full of books: picture books, graphic novels, and popular chapter books, is the key that will keep that door open for all of my students.
