This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My eighth-grade English students will be reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet as part of their curriculum. Most people who read Shakespeare struggle with it. Imagine reading it when you are an adolescent. (Many probably did; I read it in high school.) The Shakespeare No Fear books have a modern-day English translation on the opposite page from the text. Students can understand the meaning when it is in a language they use daily.
This makes Shakespeare much more understandable and accessible for all students, especially those who struggle with reading.
Having No Fear Shakespeare books to accompany and supplement the Romeo and Juliet text students will be reading will lead to much better understanding, more engaging discussions, and more in-depth thinking. Most people will recognize the question, "To be, or not to be?" but that is from Hamlet, not Romeo and Juliet. "To understand, or not to understand?" Please help me help my students understand by supporting my project for a companion guide to Romeo and Juliet. Thank you.
