When I step in front of my classroom at the beginning of the day and look at my students, I know that a great day awaits me. My students greet me with smiles, questions and eager faces; they are ready to learn, and I am ready to teach them all that I can.
My students are incredible, curious, adept, and capable learners.
My students speak different languages (over 19 languages at our school) and all have tremendous talent to share with each other. My students jump into their daily learning with zeal. They work together, laugh together, learn together, and share everything in their classroom community.
My Project
My students are beginning research strategies in the 4th grade. As a class, we will be studying Mount Everest, the tallest point on the planet! Students will read "Where is Mount Everest?" in order to learn about the history of this remarkable mountain, from its early days as Peak XV to the day when it was first conquered on May 29th, 1953. My students will learn about the youngest people to climb Mount Everest, Jordan Romero and Malavath Poorna (both aged 13 when they summited Everest).
As a class we will research and study all aspects of Mount Everest, from its geography and its spectacular science, to the people who have climbed it, and to the incredible Sherpa people who live near it.
Students will create research posters of their favorite aspect of Everest, and also learn about the Jordan Romero's incredible seven summits achievement in the book "No Summit out of Sight." These books will give students an opportunity to learn about what it takes to climb Everest and its history. Students will then demonstrate their posters to other classes to showcase their knowledge.
Help us take a journey to the top of the world through research and nonfiction!
