My Students
My third grade art students are studying the sun and the moon and in order to support their Expedition, I want to create a cross-curricular project that connects their learning to the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh. His work has a three dimensional quality to it that I hope to capture.
My students are vibrant and interested learners.
They take their learning seriously, and as their Art teacher, I support them in their quest for deeper knowledge. Our school is a very wonderful community of learners. We practice character traits every day and incorporate them into our lessons. We are an Expeditionary Learning school as well, which means that students will have the chance to share their learning with their peers.
My Project
The resources I am requesting are for a project that explores the nature of the sun and the moon in art. I will be using many examples of how the sun and moon have been inspiration for artists for centuries. Then we will study paintings by Vincent Van Gogh that feature the sun and the moon. Students will then create their own impressionist style sun and moon paintings using watercolors and craypas and raffia. The watercolor will form the underpainting while the cray pas will lend the texture and movement of the Van Gogh works, while the raffia will add a three dimensional quality to the work through collage. It will all be done on the requested paper. My students need paint, craypas, paper and raffia to create their exciting sun and moon impressionist style paintings.
I am thrilled to be working with my students on this project.
It will combine the wonderful learning that they do in class with an art project which will captivate their interest and showcase their magnificent abilities as artists. Thank you in advance for your generous support!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
