Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in Korea Town in Los Angeles, California. My school offers three language programs which parents can choose from. We offer English only, Korean Maintenance and Spanish Dual Language. I teach Korean Maintenance 4th-grade class.

Students are curious, enthusiastic, and creative.

My students are eager to try new things and discover new knowledge through experiences.

Many of my students are interested in science and I would like to enhance their learnings by providing them great hands-on experiment resources.

My Project

As students witness development in science daily, I have noticed many students show interest in science. Students love to discover new concepts and actually understand the scientific concepts that students can relate to their daily lives. However, I often felt short of resources to further enhance students' understanding and to motivate students. Students are seldom motivated by reading textbooks and watching science-related videos from many years ago. It is much harder for students with learning disabilities or students who are English language learners. On the other hand, I see students actively participating when they do hands-on science experiments. I even see better results on the assessments for the contents that students did experiments on. Unfortunately, it's not easy to prepare experiments for every science concepts. I have to prepare all of the materials on my own from paper clips to LED lights. Some materials have to be ordered 2 to 3 weeks prior to getting those materials on time.

With this science experiment kit, my students will be able to discover and explore new science concept as they work together as little engineers.

Students will be able to come up with a creative solution based on science concepts to a given engineering problem. Not only that, I do not have to worry about getting the supplies and waiting for all the supplies to arrive on time since all the supplies are included in the kit already. By donating to our project, you will not only help my students to participate in hands-on activities, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
