My Project

While students are excited to actively engage with Earth Science through project based learning, there are still literacy skills that students are missing. While enrichment peaks interest in Earth and space sciences, students are often unable to clearly describe what they are doing, summarize data, and provide written inferences based on the learning goals of the assignments. Our ELA, social studies, and math courses do a great job providing students with an opportunity to read and practice comprehension, but these skills must be reinforced constantly in formal and informal settings.

The chosen titles for this project provide the students with an opportunity to engage with scientific fiction and fact to peak interest in science and literacy.

Students will read these books in correspondence with Georgia academic standards of Earth and space sciences. Projects and assessments have been designed to meet academic goals and provide space to enrich student understanding while building literacy skills.

Our students have unique experience and skills in the areas of tourism, animal husbandry, fish-breeding, construction, agriculture, and other forms of project based learning. Presenting and sharing their experiences is something that these students do not have an opportunity to provide. By shrinking the gaps of literacy and building inference, students will have an opportunity to share their experiences and skills with those in Fannin County and throughout the state.
