This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is a student-led project, so I will let my students introduce themselves:

Connecticut Climate Action (CTCA) was founded a little over a year ago by a group of dedicated students, with a passion for the environment.

Since then we have removed over a ton of trash from our local waterways through generous donations from our surrounding communities. I have over 40 students in my club, from two high schools in Meriden. Most of my peers come from underprivileged households and enjoy the sight of a well-cleaned river. Through the hard work of my peers, and donations from our community, we have been able to make a substantial difference.

My Project

My students are very engaged in trying to improve the environment and want to make a positive meaningful impact on the local ecosystem. Through this hands-on learning experience, students will be able to collaborate, build, and install a bat condo in the Quinnipiac River Watershed area behind our school. After learning from local experts, my students have expanded their knowledge of the importance of bats on the local environment. Working with a local environmental action group, my students have been able to identify a site and obtain municipal approval for this project, but we need your help to get the bat condo itself!

The project is the culmination of student-led community outreach and civic engagement and will enable future research opportunities and enable these students to leave a legacy of environmentalism in our community.

Students will be able to observe the local bat population and potentially measure its impact on the ecosystem, as well as educate the local community about the environmental impact of a healthy bat population.

One of the great advantages of donating to our project is that it is a great learning experience for the students as well as an investment in a community's ecological future.
