This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are primarily Latino attending a school in a low income neighborhood. Many of them will be a first generation high school graduate and college student. My students have a thirst for knowledge and they are amazed by the classic literature we read as a class because this is their first exposure to it. They would benefit from being able to have materials to help them read, annotate, and answer questions.

The pandemic robbed my students of being able to read and act out Shakespeare plays together in class.

Now that we are on campus once again, students are ready to engage in deep class discussions and write thoughtful reflections on what they read. The types of complex discussion we are able to have in my class are unique to school and is not something a majority of these students experience outside of school. My goal is for my students to not only find success in their reading and writing but to be able to discuss ideas from the text and learn how to express their opinions thoughtfully and intelligently.

My Project

My students have not had the opportunity for positive and productive classroom experiences with reading Shakespeare.

These materials will help provide them with the tools they need to read Hamlet successfully and give them the skills they need to do well on the AP Literature exam this spring.

Having their own copies to annotate will aid them in their studies. Hamlet will be especially relatable to my students as they are beginning to make life-impacting decisions of where to go to college, what to study, and what to do after graduation.
