To Read or Not to Read? There's No Question!

Help me give my students some leveled books with engaging topics. The "I Can Read" series will address my students who are ready for a bigger challenge, while the lower leveled books will motivate my emerging readers.

My Students

My 6 year-old students have a zest for life and learning. They know no gender or color, everyone is automatically their friend. They are eager to try and don't get embarrassed if they don't succeed at something, it just gives them the drive to try harder. They glow with their successes and are eager to tell someone about them. A compliment goes a long way from me, a parent, an aide, or another peer. There is so much learning going on everyday with first graders.

My students cheer for one another when a child has a success either inside the classroom or outside.

I love to support them in their outside activities, sports, ice skating, plays, recitals, and I always film them. The next day I show the rest of the class some of the pictures and video that I took as they played or performed. My class always applauds for them. They are wonderful to encourage each other.

My Project

Imaginations will come to life as my students make a book their best friend. As I help my young readers engage, comprehend, and apply stories to their lives, they will grow a thirst for wanting more. From traveling to the Paleolithic era to outer space, they will know no boundaries. Life as it was and the possibilities for the future will be limitless and exciting to their young minds.

To coin an old phrase, "Life without books is like an unsharpened pencil; there's no point!" As we know, just one good reader can change the world, so imagine 21 great readers in one class!
