My Students
We are a school in an urban area. Many of our students don't have the basic necessities to come to school or the means to purchase necessary supplies.
At our school, we often give out vouchers for free school uniforms because parents cannot afford to purchase uniforms.
We have given out book bags filled with supplies to the majority of our students so that they can have their basic classroom needs met. Other students may start with materials but lose track of them due to many housing moves throughout the year.
My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with a meaningful learning experience.
My Project
I want my students to become fluent mathematicians. They need a fun way to do this. I want them to use apps on the iPad to help them become fluent in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Having these iPads will allow my students to be given immediate feedback on if they have the correct or incorrect answer.
These self checking apps will allow my students to practice their fluency more. The iPad apps will be a fun and exciting way for students to study their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Mastery of these facts are very crucial in third grade in order for students to build a good foundation in Math in later grades! I have discovered that simply telling students to study their facts does not work because many students do not understand how to study or do not have someone at their house who can help them with the facts they need. These materials will help take them to the next level in math.
