Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is very small, but diverse. We not only have many regular education classes, but also have 5 Special Education classes. Many of my students are from low, socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is a Title I school. 75% of our students receive free and reduced price lunch.
I just love my class!
I am a Transitional Kindergarten teacher. Transitional Kindergarten is a Pre-K program in California that allows 4 year old students (who are now 5), who didn't make the Kindergarten cut-off date, to attend a free Pre-school program. My students are so excited about learning! It brings a smile to my face to say that my 5 year old babies are as passionate about playing as much as they are about learning. It is my goal to make sure my Transitional Kindergarten students are provided interesting, exciting experiences that will allow them to learn while having fun.
My Project
My babies are learning so many things! Education is changing all of the time and a new change is our Science Standards. I have gone from teaching certain constant themes to now having to teach all new things. I would love to have books to help me teach them the Next Generation Science Standards. I believe books are a wonderful way of teaching children and I love reading them non-fiction engaging texts.
Playing is the best way to teach young children.
Having them feel like they are playing rather than "learning" is such an amazing way to help them ease into an academic Kindergarten next year. I would love magnetic alphabet letters and maze puzzles to help them play with and learn the formation of the letters. I also would love for them to be able to practice their fine motor skills with the different pinching games. With fine motor skill practice, my kids will be able to go to Kindergarten and keep up with the difficult and strenuous academic writing that is going on in our Kindergarten classes.
