My Students

I still remember the first time I read To Kill a Mockingbird and the lessons I learned from it, and my desire is to give this opportunity to a new generation of students.

I teach gifted students who have a desire to learn and be challenged.

These kids are warm, funny, caring, and crave new knowledge and experiences. My school is located in a small town in Florida, and I think my kids could benefit from the lessons taught in this modern classic.

My Project

A class set of To Kill a Mockingbird will make it possible for every student to have a novel in their hands. Since I teach accelerated students, this means that my kids will be able to read the book at home and come in the next day ready to use the material for discussion and project purposes. Having these books means that my kids can spend time in class learning about the literary features and themes of the novel rather than spending days in class reading. Beyond basic literary elements such as plot and character, this novel is full of symbolism, and is the perfect platform for teaching about the Civil Rights movement in America. The book is so rich that I could literally spend 9 weeks exploring it with my students.

I hope that by teaching this book to my students, I will not only impact their intellectual abilities, but the way they view the world as well.

This book remains one of my most treasured reads.
