Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine reading a book only to find pages missing? The books in my classroom have been well loved over the past 10 years, but considering that many came as library "discards" they have seen their better days.

My students are eager and persistent learners.

Although many of there families experience language and financial challenges, they show up every morning with smiles on their faces ready for the day's activities. Located in a suburb of Washington DC, our school serves a large population of Hispanic immigrants learning English as a second language.

My Project

I am requesting new chapter and storybooks for the classroom library. Students have silent reading time during the reading block to read a book of their choice. With this donation, the students will have a wide selection of title from today's popular book series.

Having new books for our classroom library will bring a level of excitement to reading.

Students will use our checkout system to be able to take a book home. By having Spanish print books available kids can have an opportunity to share and discuss the book with a parent. Providing a print rich classroom environment is key in building a successful literacy program. These new books will help spark the love of reading for my students and ultimately help them to become better readers.
