This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The student body at the high school where I teach consists of 70% of the population with free and reduced lunch. Most students come from impoverish backgrounds.
I coach boy's tennis and it is not uncommon for some guys to come out for the team without a racket or proper attire for practicing.
Most teams we play have participants who are able to afford private lessons and versatile equipment to assist with their success.
I want to encourage my students to participate in after school activities that will make them successful not only on the court, but in LIFE.
My Project
Most of the team equipment we currently use is mismatched, and there is not enough. The teams we play have matching uniforms and our students do not. We try to fundraise for the apparel, but have not been successful. Having team shorts will help us match, bring unity to the team, and the quality of the shorts will be used for several years.
By matching and looking better, students will feel more pride towards their team, their school, and themselves.
With your generous donations you have the opportunity to help our students succeed on and off the court in life.
