Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each day my middle school students fear getting caught; caught by their teachers, caught by their parents, caught by their peers. Character education is a huge part of our school mission. I want my students to realize that as long as you are making good choices you don’t have to fear being caught.
That is why I want to use a HP photo printer and supplies to “catch” them in the library. I witness students making good choices each day; students get caught reading, students get caught assisting a friend, students get caught doing homework but these choices are not public. I run contests, have displays, provide games, as well as assist in research, homework and book selection but nothing gets students into the library like other students (and free food).
I want to display pictures of students as they utilize the library and publicize their actions around our building. Students will be able to not only be role models in their actions, but also in their presence in the library. I plan to have students highlight the great programs happening at our school. As students witness their friends getting “caught in the library,” they too will want to get caught. We are a high need district struggling to keep our students safe and give them the best foundation in education possible.
