This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are young, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. They work hard and want to over-excel in all that they do. They love helping one another and giving each other the support. They are very open-minded and absorb the information given to them quite quickly. Even though most of my students embrace each other and know the importance of being kind, they are often exposed to very negative events occurring in their neighborhoods, making it sometimes difficult to stay positive and do the right thing.
My Project
My students know the importance of being kind. They understand that anything else is not acceptable, but are often confused by the experiences in their neighborhoods and the messages they receive from their environment.
These books will help my students receive validation for who they are and acceptance of others.
They will learn to respond with compassion and confidence. Students need to be able to develop their social-emotional skills, not just academics. Often books do not represent protagonists that look like them. It is hard to relate to events when there is nothing that looks like you. These books will teach students to understand one another and live life with empathy, self-respect, and love.
Your generous donation will help my students find who they are and accept others for who they are. They will help develop their confidence and understanding of others. They will teach them about diversity and that everyone is important.
