Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
That is the question...... I teach fifth grade in TAFT, Texas. We are a small school in a very small town. The school is Title One and does not have a lot of necessary items. Our students are great kids but becuase of monetary reasons do not get to participate in a lot of sports and extra curricular activities, nor does the school have enough funds to delegate after school clubs. I grew up in a very theatrical family and would like to share this with my students. I have since begun a theater arts club. They are to be called the Royal Hound Troop!
This project is close to my heart because of my love for the arts but because I know that it can help my students gain more self confidence, a love for something other than television, a work ethic, and life skills that they all will need later in life. They will learn to speak up and present themselves. They will learn to sew and how to use a hammer and drill and paint. These are lessons that are forgotten around here. Not to mention that the majority of these students need someplace safe to feel that they belong and are wanted.
I have selected a play and begun the tedious task of getting supplies. Since this program will begin from scratch a lot is necessary. I am asking for your help to help get us started. There are many factors to consider. We will need tools and lumber and material, and costumes, and props, etc.. I would like to ask for a donation of a Home Depot gift card. This would enable me to purchase tools, paint, and wood to create our scenery and props. All is needed and appreciated. I know that this is a huge task ahead but I am ready and so are my students. I believe in this program and that it will be a huge success. Your donation will help bring us one step closer to opening night!
