Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school has participated in a book club for students for the past 20 years. Due to budget cuts in the district, this program will be eliminated. We would like to continue with this valuable club.
Many kids today do not choose to read for fun.
We want to change that! Once a week we meet before school starts to read books together and discuss them. We talk about character arcs and the word choice author's make. Students compare stories and express their opinions.
We have about 50 students who participate in this program. I have chosen award-winning titles that will make us think and stories that will make us laugh. Purposely choosing a list of diverse characters and authors to represent all our students.
My students were heartbroken to find out this meaningful program was eliminated. Please help me mend those broken hearts and allow it: to be continued.
