Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Just being in a transitional kindergarten class makes you unique. You don't have the maturity level that kindergarten students have. However, a transitional student does have the enthusiasm to still enjoy hands-on activities and getting down dirty. Remember the excitement you felt when your teacher told you that today you were going to explore and be a scientist and went outside with all your science tools. Or the time when during the center time you made the choice to go to the science center to use science manipulatives to learn more about plants and animals.
My students live and attend an elementary school in one of the many low-income communities all across California.
The school is of high poverty. The school is very diverse, made up of 60 percent Latino and 40 percent African American. My particular students are very curious, enthusiastic, and active learners. They are all part of our Transitional Kindergarten Program Learning Community.
My Project
My students will not only be playing with these dramatic play items and play figures. They will imitate the real-life experience and learn to cooperate and negotiate while playing with their fellow classmates and friends in the different dramatic play areas in our community classroom.
My students enjoy breaking into a different dramatic play area or center in our classroom.
Right after a whole group lesson. Some themes are more popular than others like the kitchen area, vehicle, dinosaurs, and blocks. Children are learning without noticing that the teacher purposely open up a center or dramatic play for a reason.
