Help me give my students white boards, markers, crayons, unfix cubes, play dough, journals and writing materials to begin distance learning in the fall.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Transitional Kindergarten students come from mostly low-income, high poverty Spanish speaking households. They are part of loving families but are faced with difficult challenges both in and out of the classroom. With school starting out this year online these challenges will be exasperated since many of my students lack the appropriate funds to purchase the learning materials needed at home. It is important for me to provide my students with a challenging, creative, meaningful and developmentally appropriate learning environment regardless of the platform used.
This school year we will be starting out the school year using the 100% distance learning model.
This will be especially challenging for my students and families. I would like to create these packages to help relieve some of the stress and worry that many of them will be feeling. These packages will get them excited about distance learning and will help facilitate online lessons.
My Project
My Transitional Kindergarten students will be starting out their first year in school online and I would like to set them up for success. These materials will pair with teacher led lessons over Zoom to help facilitate learning. For example, students will use play dough or white boards to form or write letters. The journals will be used to develop drawing and writing skills during directed drawing and writing practice. The craft sticks will be used to form capital letters which is also developmentally appropriate for TK students to begin writing letters.
With these materials I will create individual home learning packages that I will safely drop off at my students homes.
This will also be an opportunity for my students to see me in person (with mask on and at a safe distance) and to make the initial connection with me that is so important in fostering a positive classroom environment.
I'm so excited to implement a fun, hands on and creative distance learning classroom for my students! I'm positive that these materials will give us the right tools needed to kick off the school year with a bang and get my students excited to step into our virtual classroom!
