My students need mini pencils to help them grip better and write ore easily. My students also need to expand their reading with a new and exciting author (Keiko Kasza).
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember hearing your teacher read a book by an author and just fall in love. My students heard me read a book by Keiko Kasza (My Lucky Day ) and they had me read it over and over. She has many great books I want to introduce my students too. We also need more pencils as they develop.
I have a classroom of Transitional Kindergarten and K.
My students are just beginning their school experiences. As they are they are going through materials so fast. A glue stick may last a week. A pencil a few days etc. The material is getting used, just very fast.
My school is a 100% free lunch school due to the socioeconomic status of the families. Some students arrive as early as 6:00 am and leave as late as 5:30 pm or go straight to a daycare.
Parents work long hours to provide what they can for their children. Most times this is not enough. Some parents expect the school to take care of all of the needs of their children, not just their academic needs. I do ask for supplies to be brought in, however it is usually less than half that do. Our library is so out of date and the same books the children hear year after year. The children need to read and hear new stories and new authors to help continue their desire to read and learn.
My Project
Once upon a time a story took you away. This story took you away from the stresses of tests, peers, family things etc. It was an escape. These fun stories by Keiko Kasza offer these same opportunities for my students. These books are fun fairy tales, with cute characters and great messages. Our school library doesn't carry any of these books and I want my classroom library to be stocked full. We will use these books for comprehension, ELD , vocabulary development, writing and sequencing and more.
Every other Friday my students watch Sid The Science Kid. Now we don't have cable in the classroom, so we can not do PBS live. I have many of the DVDS and the children love and learn from them. However, I want to continue the library and add more. From Sid my students have learned why bananas get mushy, why shoes don't shrink, the five senses, how trees grow and more. Sid is a great, fun, musical and a great way to teach a TK or K about science. After watching Sid we try his experiments.
With these great donations you will help 24 great Transitional Kinders and Full Kinders escape into the world of books, DVDs and writing.
I am asking to have a class library of books by Keiko Kasza, expand our Sid the Science Kid DVD Library and restocking our pencil supply. A great book is a memory created forever. A book will spark an idea and this can lead to future writers. These future writers need good pencils to write their thoughts and ideas.
