This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom of 25 students is a part of a school that serves close to 100% of its student population with the free and reduced lunch program. Our Title I school is populated with about 530 students of different cultural backgrounds, racial identities, and ethnic backgrounds. My class consists of students who identify themselves as Asian, Black, Latino (Latinx), and Bi-racial. Within each grade level of our school we have two classrooms that cluster English language learning students and two classrooms that cluster students with special needs. My classroom services the students with special needs within a general education setting. Also, over half of my students receive services from our school's ESL department.

My Project

Adding these titles to our classroom library would completely transform our classroom library. Students absolutely love the current graphic novels and series books that we have in our library. My students have to tear themselves away from the books that they currently are reading. My students of all reading abilities and interests will benefit from this project. Most of the time, they include many higher-level thoughts that are better portrayed through the use of illustrations and a limited amount of words. Some of these graphic novels include coding, history, and social issues that my students face every day. Thank for your generosity, in advance.
