Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students attend a Title I elementary school. Most of them are bilingual, speaking English only at school. Many parents/families work two or three jobs to provide the basic necessities at home. They want the best education for their children and to help them as much as they can. My students are hard-working, curious kids. They enjoy all hands-on activities and have a variety of interests.
I am requesting Kleenex tissues, paper towels, and snacks.
The Kleenex tissues will be available to students any time they need one to clean their noses, especially during the colder months when we see more runny noses. These tissues will keep us germ-free.
Most of the first-grade students, as well as the students in the school, receive free breakfast and lunch at school due to their lower economic status. In the past, most of the students did not bring in an afternoon snack from home because they didn't have a lot of food in the house. Breakfast and lunch are their biggest meals because they get them at school. I want to offer snacks to any first-grade student who doesn't have an afternoon snack. They eat lunch at 11:00 am, so each day so by the afternoon, they are hungry. These snacks will help them refuel their bodies and give them the energy they need to finish the day. It will help them remain focused on their work, not their rumbling tummies. Paper towels can be used so they are not putting food right on the table.
I have offered these snacks in previous years, and it has helped so much. The students are grateful to receive a snack and feel special that others want them to succeed in their academic careers. Thank you for your support!
