Tissues for Teaching: Wiping Away Distractions!

My Project

In a kindergarten classroom, care and comfort go hand in hand with learning. As a teacher of young children, I do everything I can to ensure that my students feel safe, supported, and ready to grow—not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well. My project is for tissues and inclusive skin-toned Band-Aids.

Every day in our classroom, we face runny noses, sneezes, minor scrapes, and emotional tears.

These may seem like small issues, but for five-year-olds, they’re big moments that can disrupt learning and cause discomfort. Having facial tissues and Band-Aids readily available helps children care for themselves, feel comforted, and quickly return to the important business of learning and playing.

We go through these supplies quickly. On average, we use 2–3 boxes of tissues per week during cold and allergy season. Band-Aids are also in constant demand for small cuts, scrapes, and the occasional imaginary injury that just needs a little extra love. I am seeking support to purchase:

The inclusion of skin-toned Band-Aids is especially important. Representation matters—even in the smallest details. When children of color see their skin tone reflected in something as simple as a Band-Aid, it sends a powerful message: you are seen, you are valued, and you belong. We are all a family and we all belong.
