Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a dual immersion second grade classroom. Even though my students come from distinct backgrounds, their love for bilingualism and reading brings them together.
Despite the fact that many of my students come from low-income homes, they still come to school with such a positive attitude and with so much love for everyone around them.
Their outlook in life is what makes them so special and so deserving of all the extra hours I put in everyday for them.
My Project
Please help our old classroom books get some much-needed rest! My class is in need of updated library books and a book display, to help our old books finally retire.
My students have mentioned that our books are looking old and are falling apart, even after I tape them up.
For almost 10 years I have bought my own classroom books, so my students can have the necessary materials and get excited about reading. They especially love to stay in during recess and read using a shared pointer we have. Unfortunately, due to my own and our school's budget constraints, I am not able to purchase them this year. More than 70% of our student population come from socioeconomically disadvantaged homes, so these new books and book display would be something they can look forward to having in class.
We are hoping to get new library books, a book display and a pointer for our class. These resources will be used on a daily basis and are very important for my students to continue to grow their love for reading. The library books will help retire our old ones and keep my students wanting to read new and more exciting books. The book display will help keep these books organized so that students can have easy access to them whenever they need it. The pointer will make reading fun and serve as an incentive and motivate students to read.
Donations for this project will help me get some much need supplies in the classroom, which my students and I will appreciate!
