My Students
The children in my class need extra support at an early age because of delays. I feel that with this intensive support early they will be able to function better later in school and will need less support. Hopefully they will be included in the regular classes rather than a self-contained setting.
I teach a preschool self contained class of children with special needs between the ages of 3 and 5.
We are in a rural part of the county and are drastically feeling the recent economic and budget challenges. The children have the ability to make huge progress at this very young age. All of the children have some kind of special needs in our class ranging from developmental delays, autism, down syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and cerebral palsy. This brings about many challenges for teaching and meeting all of the children's differing needs.
My Project
My students need storytelling kits, accompanying books, and storytelling glove/board. These storytelling kits will allow the students to retell the stories I have read to them. They will allow students to use critical thinking skills to sequence the story events. Working together with peers will help socialization, interaction, and communication.
By allowing me to better teach these children we are giving them a better shot at conquering the world.
They will be more successful in their schooling if they get a better start at this young and impressionable time in a child's development. Please help me to better enable my students to succeed in their future schooling. I want to raise the awareness of early intervention and the importance of preschool for children at-risk and with delays
