My students need a keypad, sign holders, colored xerox paper, USB cables and docuholders...the bare, ingredients of 4 separate projects that will make our library rock.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Sometimes, you don't have to spend a lot of money to make a big impact in school. Here are four inexpensive projects that will help rock our school library. They will speed up checkout, provide beautiful library signs, let us project book pages onto the wall, and help deliver flyers to our families.
The library belongs to 900 children at a K-8 Center in South Florida.
The school is not affluent. Over 85% of our children come from low-income houses (this figure is based on the number of kids who qualify for free/reduced lunch). Most of our children speak a language other than English at home.
Our parents tend to be immigrants with poorly-paying jobs in the local tourism industry. Consequently, our PTA is short of funds and volunteers. Our library keeps going, in large part, thanks to the generosity of Donors Choose.
My Project
Here are 4 mini-projects:
1) Let's buy a numeric keypad, so that students can punch their school I.D. number into the library computer when they check out. A great time-saver!
2) Let's make some affordable library signs. We'll buy colored xerox paper and some upright, clear display stands. Then we'll print some black and white designs onto the paper to make beautiful signs.
3) Let's get our document projectors working. We have 2 projectors - but they're missing cables.
4) Let's distribute school flyers to parents and students in a smart, professional way. We just need a small display stand.
None of these ideas costs enough to be a project in itself.
But each packs a big punch. The numeric keypad will make check-out quicker and more accurate. The signs will really help the kids out. Right now, the library shelves are interesting... but bewildering. The projectors will be fantastic. Imagine projecting an illustration onto the wall during story time. The flyer stands will help parents and kids stay informed about school events. Please help us implement these tiny but great ideas!
