Tiny Pre-K Steps are the Ladder to Learning with Big Books

My project needs 7 big books to enhance our reading lessons.

During the beginning years in a child's education, it is important to provide a warm and nurturing environment as well as opportunities for the children to develop intellectually while encouraging individuality which builds self-esteem. I am trying very hard to encourage my 18 youngsters to develop a love of learning and a love for books. My students come from low income families for the most part and come from culturally diverse backgrounds. My mission is to educate young children so they are ready to tackle not only kindergarten but all the school years to come. Big books are used in the morning to read aloud to the class. The children can easily see the print as the story is read. This is essential in the development of reading readiness skills. The children will be exposed to rhythm & rhyme stories, predicting outcomes, comprehension, vocabulary, drawing conclusions, sequencing, story events, recalling main events, and constructing meaning from illustrations. These skills will help the children become better readers. The books I have chosen will also expose the children to a variety of genres, exploring emotions, connecting print to personal experiences, and distinguishing reality from fantasy. These books will appeal to the children and will help them embark on a wonderful journey towards becoming literate and educated individuals. Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal.
