Kindergarten is an active and exciting place for learning. Five and six year olds are naturally inquisitive about the world around them and how things work.
My students are a community of learners in an inclusive classroom who thrive with hands-on learning opportunities.
I love their curiosity and willingness to take risks in a safe and nurturing environment. We work on following directions and building positive relationships all while integrating rigorous learning standards and high expectations.
Our school is in a large urban district and has recently been identified as a Title 1 school.
My Project
The Tinker Toy materials will be integrated into my small group science centers. With the Wild Wheels Set, the Little Constructor's Building Set, and the Super Building Set, students will have the resources they need to design and construct models. Bins with locking lids will provide easy storage for the pieces.
Building with Tinker Toys will support students in meeting the Next Generation Science Standards.
These standards include: Asking questions and defining problems, Developing and using models, Planning and carrying out investigations, Constructing explanations and designing solutions.
Students will identify a problem and use Tinker Toys to develop a solution. In the process, they will learn the basic steps of completing an engineering project. Whether working independently or with a partner, students will be further challenged to strengthen their writing skills by writing about their model and sharing it with the class.
