Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every teacher wants to give their students the opportunity to discover, invent, and create -- an Arduino makes this possible.

My students love technology and accordingly advocated for increased computer science education opportunities at our school.

Students are driving sweeping changes at our site. In addition to a new AP Computer Science course, students will lead a Girls Who Code club after school and other outreach programs --science fair, hackathons, engineering workshops -- designed to get as many people in our community as technology savvy as possible.

My Project

Students will use the Arduino starter kit to make projects that will teach them the essentials of circuitry and microcontrollers. In addition to learning about the hardware, students can manipulate source code to learn about programming. The Arduino is a powerful tool and the most creative students can use it as a platform to address community issues. By having these Arduino starter kits in my classroom, I hope to engage students interested in engineering, the Maker Movement, and computer science.

Access to a tool like an Arduino is something that my students have yet to experience.

I think that the Arduino could launch student interest in engineering. If all goes well, the Arduino could serve as a platform for a community-focused, engineering-based project. In the spirit of open-source technology, this tool's potential in my classroom is boundless.
