Tinker Tubs

My students need arts and craft supplies for tinker tubs in the Media for STEM.

My Students

My students need extra support. Students at this school are hard working learners. They may come from homes that are struggling. More than 3/4 of them are on free or reduced lunch, but that doesn’t stop them from wanting an education. The students are multiracial, including 40% white, 31% Hispanic, 23% Black, 3% Asian, and 3% combination of races. This creates an environment of acceptance and tolerance for all. My challenge is to level the playing field, so that students with less opportunities are able to compete academically with those who have more opportunities.

Creating learning experiences for these students is the best part of my job; the joy on their faces as they are discovering something new and integrating knowledge into their “personal toolkits” is priceless.

In my learning environment, I endeavor to set them up to win in an environment that is inviting and comfortable. Sometimes that means school supplies, mending clothing, a bandaid, or a kind word. I believe this will not only help the students focus, but will also produce a higher level of work from the student. Teaching these young learners is a privilege.

My Project

Do you know what tinker is? Tinkering involves attempting to repair and improve something in a casual way. We need supplies to make these tubs. These will encourage students to build and create and design things with or without having a new creative prompt. We need containers, popsicle sticks, building blocks, magnetic boards, pipe cleaners, and many more things to create.

Students will be reading books and making connections with each story, therefore creating or building something to go along with each one.

Students will be using building blocks, popsicle sticks, straws, and anything else they can think of while making something to go along with a story. Pre-K can use these items to build shapes, learn colors, help with following directions to build new items, it also is used to expand their creativity and learn to collaborate through play.
