This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Tinker Toys, though classic, are incredibly versatile in a modern classroom when used intentionally. They can be framed not just as construction toys but as engineering tools that foster problem-solving and creativity for all students, especially those who may not see themselves represented in traditional STEM resources. Large sets allow for group collaboration and ensure that every student has equitable access to materials during STEM centers or challenges. These tactile, visual tools are especially engaging for students with diverse learning needs, including English language learners and students with disabilities.
Using Tinker Toys in our classroom allows students to build, create, and solve problems—just like real engineers.
But we’re not just building towers—we’re building confidence and curiosity. With activities inspired by diverse STEM leaders and real-world challenges, students will learn that innovation is for everyone, and that their ideas matter. These hands-on tools help level the playing field and make STEM accessible, joyful, and empowering for all learners.
