This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My deserving and talented students from Ward 7 of Washington, DC, do not come with all the resources that they need. Ward 7 is sometimes seen as a rougher neighborhood with many of our students living in notorious housing projects.

All I see: diamonds in the rough!

These kids deserve to have the same chances and opportunities as the kids in the much wealthier suburbs of DC. My students are rich with creative, bright energy. All they need is someone to believe and invest!

My Project

Our school's Concert Band needs equipment in our percussion section. We often encounter sheet music that calls for tambourines, sleigh-bells, and triangles. We just don't have all of the small percussion goods that a band should have. We need some sounds that "tingle and jingle." These instruments impact the entire band's sound.

We shouldn't have to use a metal wrench in place of a triangle beater!

This project includes the triangle beaters that we need to ditch the wrench. More importantly, this project will allow many more students to be added to the percussion section of our band. For example, the xylophone mallets will allow more students a chance to participate.
