Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my district are consistently eager to learn and enthusiastic about new and exciting learning opportunities, despite the challenges that they face outside of the classroom.

Our students live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.

Our students and their families have been severely impacted by the pandemic; the impact extends beyond academics to social-emotional health, and general well-being.

Our students love to learn, but as we have begun this school year in a fully remote model, we need to do everything we can to set them up for success. We are working to take the lessons learned during the spring's remote teaching and apply them as we transform teaching and learning moving forward. We will do whatever is possible to keep the spark of learning alive--along with the enthusiasm, effort, and resiliency that defines our students.

My Project

This has been a school year like no other, with students learning in a fully remote model, and we need to do everything possible to set our students up for success in their learning. Our youngest students are becoming so proficient with their Chromebooks and online learning platforms, and now they are ready to work independently for chunks of time, while teachers work with other students in small groups. In order to make this work, our students need the right tools!

These timers will allow students to work independently, off of Zoom, and then get back online in time for their next "synchronous" lesson with their teacher.

Students will develop important skills such as time-management and independence, and teachers will be able to focus on a small group lesson without having to worry about getting their other students back online.

Our students do not all have consistently reliable internet, and many of their independent online learning programs will work much better if they are not connected to Zoom at the same time. These timers will help to reduce the barrier of a slow internet connection by enabling students to only work on the digital program they need to use for their independent work.
