Time to Slow Down

My students need cursive workbooks, sketchpads, and drawing pencils to practice slowing down on their work.

My Students

My 4th graders are military children that come from a range of backgrounds. They work hard to balance having their parents gone at length and making friends every time they move. Because of their background, they are very resilient.

Laughter is something that comes easily for these students.

With everything that they go through, they are able to put a smile on their face and make the best out of any situation.

Lastly, my students love to draw. They find every opportunity to draw in class and I try to find opportunities to incorporate sketching in the classroom.

My Project

The cursive workbooks and sketchbooks will be used to help the students slow down. Many fourth graders are experts at rushing through assignments and tests. They are concerned with finishing a task so that they can move onto the next task. Often times, they make small mistakes because they are not concerned with doing something right, they are concerned only with finishing the task. They will be using these resources on a daily basis to help them slow down their writing and thinking.

Students will use the sketchbooks to slow down and see details to draw silhouettes.

The students love to draw and so I plan to use that interest to help them take their time on their work. The cursive workbooks will be used for the same reason, to help students concentrate and focus on taking their time. Both of these resources that I am requesting also give students a chance to develop their own personality through their handwriting and drawing. This grant will help provide some needed resources to students to help them further succeed.
