My Project
My students represent a wonderful slice of Brooklyn's diversity. Our middle school students form a community that celebrates a wide range of experiences, backgrounds, and learning styles. One way our student body comes together outside the classroom is through sports.
At our school, the track team aims to provide a rewarding athletic experience for all students, regardless of ability.
Students work together to build personal fitness, develop friendships, and compete as a team in cross country and track meets across the city.
Middle school is a critical time of personal development for all students. Our runners get a valuable opportunity to make make friends, challenge themselves, and grow in important ways that will set them up for success in the future.
Track is also a sport where students can set individual goals and chart their personal progress every week. Running provides a way for everyone to feel good about their own achievements even if they aren't competing (yet!) at the highest levels.
However, getting the most out of the training requires a way for students to time their runs. Something as simple as a watch can be a barrier. Most students don't wear one and we discourage using phones during practice to avoid distractions and keep the focus on team building.
Giving runners a basic digital stopwatch so they can time their runs will help them take ownership of their training and focus on their growth and improvement. Setting small goals for each run or each week of practice helps students stay committed to the training and feel a sense of accomplishment no matter their skill level.
Please donate to help us supply these digital stopwatches so our runners get the most out of their training while growing their confidence and physical fitness.
