This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in a low income, poverty-stricken, minority, Title I school. One hundred percent of the students in my class receive not only free breakfast but free lunches as well. It is hard to learn when you worry about when you will get your next meal.
Our school serves students in grades K-5 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment.
For many of the students, school is the most secure and safe environment they have. We want school to feel like a safe place away from the troubles of their daily lives.
My Project
My students need options on reading non-fiction text. If they find a love for reading non-fiction they will be inspired to learn more about the world around them.
The TIME magazine subscription will open a new source of information.
Many of my students have never seen a magazine that was designed for students to learn. Let's help them learn that magazines are a great way to be informed about the world. Keeping the flow of information to the students is instrumental in deepening their level of knowledge and their willingness to learn new things. The children are our future! Let's make it a bright one!
